Stonewear replica of takeout bento box from The Bowl

In the winter of 2017, I embarked on a transformative artistic journey, inspired by the pervasive issue of single-use plastics in my community. I began replicating the plastics that I was eating from using the medium of slip cast stoneware.

One of the most intricate pieces in this series is my interpretation of the bento box from The Bowl in the Grange food court, situated across from OCADU. Both the original vacuum-formed plastic takeout container and my slip cast ceramic replica share a common feature: positive draft angles meticulously crafted during the mold-making process.

Through this meticulous replication process, I aim to draw attention to the paradox of permanence in materials designed for single use. By transforming ephemeral plastics into enduring ceramic pieces, I seek to provoke reflection on our relationship with consumption and waste in contemporary society.
